Bottom line: please take this survey so I can continue to write about things you like!
Hi everyone! Unfortunately, I don’t have a post for you this week, as I was on vacation in Vermont (in the middle of absolute nowhere) for the last eight days. It was incredibly restful and incredibly relaxing1.
But! in an attempt to turn this off week into something productive, I’d like to do my periodic check in to hear what you want me to write about. I put together an extremely short and extremely anonymous Survey Monkey survey (literally two questions, for which I will collect no data besides the responses themselves). I’ll use the responses to make sure I’m focusing on topics that we’re all interested in.
But in the meantime, if you’re hungry for some open source news, check out this Washington Post article, which quotes our Bellingcat reporting about how climate change may have helped spark the recent clashes between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. Or Alexander Haynes’ really cool OSINTEditor briefing, which goes over some useful disinformation-busting tools and very kindly shouts out the last LOAC post on the Taliban’s social media use.
As a reminder, I’m always reachable securely via lineofactualcontrol at protonmail dot com or you can ask for my Signal number if you prefer to get in touch that way. Or you can drop a comment below or DM me on Twitter if you just want to chat.
I can’t say it enough: thank you so, so, so much for your support.
And don’t worry, I’ll be back next week with a Warren Zevon-ian look at an open-source story in West Africa. Till then!
PS please take the survey :)
The 12 straight hours of rain while camping notwithstanding.
